American architect Bob Venturi‘s famous motto, LESS is BORE is a response to Mies van der Rohe’s LESS IS MORE…

Have a look at Venturi’s first famous project, the house for his mother, built in the early 1960s.. In which way do you think this house may resemble to Soane’s complex idea of space as seen in his house at 13, Lincoln’s Inn Fields? Are there similarities between the two, despite their being so distant in time and space? In 1966 Venturi published a book entitled Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture in which he praised the works of Mannerist and Baroque architects and advocated a symbolical and sensorial approach to architecture…
