In Search for Orders in Turin

Conservatory of Turin

This is the drawing of Turin Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi”. It is located in Piazza Bodoni, in the quarter that is called Borgo Nuovo. It was projected and built in the 1930s, during Fascism, within a more general project of renovation of the city that included also Via Roma’s porticos. It is noticeable that there are two orders of columns: the first is Doric, with thick columns that also have a structural function, while the second is Ionic and it is incorporated in the wall of the facade, forming the so called lesenas.
